FinTech Taipei will be held from October 28-29 at the World Trade Center in Taipei City. The Financial Services Supervisory Commission (FSC) is the event's advisor, while the organizers are the Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance (TABF) and the Taiwan Financial Services Roundtable. The FSC and TABF will jointly hold the event.
FinTech Taipei will be held from October 28-29 at the World Trade Center in Taipei City. Highlighting the first day of the exhibition will be the International FinTech Summit Forum, designed for financial services professionals and expected to feature financial institutions and participants from the United States, European Union, UK, Japan, South Korea and Australia. Topics that will be covered include digital identity applications, digital financial norms and sustainable finance.
October 29 will feature the FinTech Practical Application seminar tailored for both students and the general public. It will focus on practical use cases for innovative financial technology. Speakers on the second day of FinTech Taipei will hail from a wide variety of financial industry segments.
In addition, FinTech Taipei will include the debut of the Taipei Fintech Awards. In total, 99 different companies submitted 160 applications in the competition. Of the five award categories, the “Business Model Innovation Award” and the “Technology Innovation Award” are the most competitive, with 60 and 52 applications respectively.
The winners will be selected in early October, and the top three will be honored at an award ceremony at FinTech Taipei on October 28, at which time they will also deliver their respective demos.
Finally, FinTech Taipei will highlight five key areas of digital financial technology in which Taiwan has made significant progress this year:
- Pure-play online banking: With the launch of Next Bank in March, all three of Taiwan's digital banks (also including Line Bank and Rakuten Bank) are now live and boosting the digital transformation of the financial services sector.
- The official launch of the online passbook platform for life insurance, an important milestone in Taiwan's move towards paperless life insurance policies.
- The second phase of Taiwan's CBDC pilot program was completed in June, ahead of schedule, as it was originally planned to be finished in September. This brings a digital New Taiwan dollar one step closer.
- Digital insurance companies: The application period began in August and will end in October. There will be a five-month pilot period, and it is expected that the names of digital insurers will be announced in April 2023.
- The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA), led by Audrey Tang, was inaugurated in August. It is a milestone initiative as Taiwan ramps up its efforts to build digital resilience.
